Belgium
is set to transfer RIM-7 Sea Sparrow surface-to-air missiles to Ukraine, having
bought them from Germany, Belgian newspaper L’Echo reported on Aug. 31.
In total, Belgium purchased eight of these missiles, each costing roughly EUR 7,000 ($7,700).
Germany previously utilized Sea Sparrow missiles on their Bremen-class frigates, but they have since been decommissioned.
On May 31, White House National Security spokesman John Kirby announced that the United States will provide Ukraine with a new military aid package, which included Sea Sparrow missiles, among other items.
Earlier this year, Politico sources reported that the Ukrainian military has successfully retrofitted their Soviet-era Buk surface-to-air missile systems to launch Sea Sparrows.
