Bodies of 21 civilians buried in the streets given proper burial in liberated Sviatohirsk

The bodies of 21 civilians who were killed during the Russian occupation of the town of Sviatohirsk in Donetsk Oblast have been given a proper burial, Pavlo Kyrylenko, the head of the regional military administration, said on Oct. 8.

The deceased civilians had been buried in impromptu graves in the towns streets and courtyards.

"During the Russian occupation and the fighting for Sviatohirsk, the dead were buried in the streets and (building) yards,” read captions to a video of the reburial work posted by Kyrylenko on YouTube.

“All the bodies of the reburied have been identified and properly laid to rest,” the captions read.

The National Guard confirmed the liberation of Sviatohirsk from Russian occupation on Sept. 12.

Russian troops shelled the recently liberated Sviatohorsk with rockets on Sept. 17.

One person was killed and a child injured in the enemy attack on the town.
