CEO Club Ukraine director Dmytro Karchuk returned home after spending 2 1/2 weeks in custody in Poland following his detention under a European arrest warrant issued by Germany in a bicycle theft case.
“Everything ended as abruptly as it began. In fact, there is still a great deal to figure out: what exactly this was, how it happened, what documents were used, and whether it was an accident or something else. But now I am able to act, and I will get to the bottom of it,” Karchuk wrote on Facebook on Aug. 16.
He also posted a photo from a detention center in Przemysl and a bag that “held 2 1/2 weeks of my life.”
“Personally, I learned a lot — about myself and about a system that chews people up for months even when their guilt has not been proven,” Karchuk said.
On Aug. 14, Serhiy Haidachuk, founder and president of CEO Club Ukraine, said German authorities had withdrawn the arrest warrant for Karchuk, after which a Polish court ordered his release. Ukrainian, Polish and German lawyers, representatives of the Ukrainian Consulate and CEO Club members had been working on the case since July 28.
On July 28, 2026, Dmytro Karchuk, executive director and co-owner of CEO Club Ukraine, was detained while crossing the Polish border under a European arrest warrant issued by German law enforcement authorities.
According to German law enforcement authorities, in September 2024, a man arrived by truck at a warehouse in Germany, posed as an employee of a logistics company, used forged shipping documents, collected a shipment of 171 electric bicycles and failed to deliver them to their intended destination. The shipment was worth nearly 127,000 euros. German authorities linked the man to Karchuk.
Karchuk has served as executive director of CEO Club Ukraine since 2013 and later became one of the organization’s co-owners.
