Czech Republic extends ban on issuing visas to Russians

The Czech government has extended the ban on issuing visas and long-term residence permits to Russian and Belarusian citizens until March 31, 2024, Czech news agency ČTK České Noviny reported on March 22, citing official documents.
The government has also amended the document, under which Russians and Belarusians with citizenship of another country will no longer be able to obtain a Czech visa or residence permit.
The Czech Republic has suspended the issuance of visas to citizens of the Russian Federation, and later to those of Belarus since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
Prague has also banned Russian tourists from non-Schengen countries from visa-free transit through its airports and direct entry into the territory of the Czech Republic.
Applications for obtaining a residence permit in the Czech Republic submitted by Russians and Belarusians are still not being considered.
On Oct. 25, 2022, the Czech Republic closed entry to Russian citizens with Schengen visas.
Prior to that, the decision of the European Union came into force to suspend the agreement on simplified visa regime with Russia.
