Ukraine will receive F-16 fighter jets from its allies, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council (RNBO), Oleksiy Danilov has said, even though the United States and Germany have nixed the idea for now.

Danilov, while speaking on national television on March 30, said that Ukraine didn't have many Western weapons at the beginning of the Russian full-scale invasion, but it has them now.

"No one believed we would get Patriots (missile systems), Leopards (tanks) and many other weapons that are already in Ukraine. We will definitely get aircraft soon," the Ukrainina security council secretary said.

U.S. President Joe Biden and Germany's Chancellor Olaf Scholz both have both said they will not supply aircraft to Ukraine at this time.

However, Ukraine's Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov believes it's a matter of one or two months before Western leaders come round to the idea of providing Ukraine with a modern multi-role fighter to protect its skies.

Ukrainian pilots can master F-16 fighter jets in less than half a year, Commander of the Ukrainian Air Force, General Serhiy Holubtsov, said on March 20.

Ukraine says it needs F-16 fighters to support its coming offensive against Russian invasion forces, and to counter the latest escalation in the war by Russia – the bombing of Ukrainian border towns with guided aerial bombs released by Russian warplanes flying outside the range of Ukrainian air defenses.
