Drafted by the German government, the proposal to transfer Taurus cruise missiles to Ukraine is currently on the desk of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said on Sept. 4, as reported by news agency Ukrinform.

"I think that this decision [on the transfer of Taurus missiles to Ukraine] is on the desk of the German chancellor; he needs to approve it," said Kuleba.

Earlier on Sept. 4, Bild reported that Berlin refuses to supply the Ukrainian armed forces with Taurus missiles, due to concerns that Kyiv might used the weapons to strike Russian territory.

Germany’s Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock and Finance Minister Christian Lindner have both supported supplying Taurus missiles to Ukraine.

On Aug. 11, Der Spiegel reported that the German government was considering supplying Taurus cruise missiles to Ukraine in the upcoming months. Scholz demands that the missiles be modified so that striking Russian territory would be impossible, according to the report.
