Preparations for Ukraine’s counteroffensive are in the final stretch, “when we can say that everything we need is ready”, Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov said during an interview on national television on May 1.

"Today we are reaching the ‘finish line’ when we can say 'yes, everything is ready,' and then, based on the decision and understanding of the battlefield situation, the General Staff, the Commander-in-Chief, and his team will understand how, where, and when,” the official stated.

Reznikov named three key factors for a successful counter-offensive:

  • The availability of weapons
  • The preparation and training of defenders who know their roles
  • The supply of the offensive with all necessary things.

"I don't just hope, I believe in it," he stressed.

“I am convinced that a lot has been done to make it (the counteroffensive)successful. Because if our generals, our General Staff, from the Commander-in-Chief to the Defense Forces commanders and leaders of the individual units, are not confident, there is no point in going. Everything must be planned and thought out.”

Ukraine’s top priority during the upcoming counteroffensive will be to liberate all of the occupied territories, Defense Intelligence chief, Kyrylo Budanov, said earlier.
