Defense Ministry purchased one million low quality military rations, prosecutors say

Defense Ministry has purchased one million subpar meal kits for the military,
Prosecutor General’s Office said in a Telegram post on Sept. 1.
The message said that prosecutors have proof that a contract the ministry signed with a private food supply company was fraudulent.
"The commodity in question involves a million such meal kits worth UAH 430 million ($11.6 million)," the report said.
The prosecutors then specify this was an “additional contract” that allowed for sub-standard food supplies to be provided to Ukrainian troops, falling short of requirements needed to satisfy their nutritional needs.
Evidence shows that the Defense Ministry has accepted these low-quality supplies on delivery.
"The court has confirmed that concluding such an additional agreement violates the current legal requirements and is contrary to the interests of the state," the message concludes.
Earlier, Ukrainian MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak said that Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov was highly likely to soon be replaced in his post with Rustem Umerov, head of the State Property Fund.
Reznikov’s resignation was previously discussed in early February 2023 amid a corruption scandal regarding purchasing food for the army at inflated prices.
