During her meeting with the head of the SBU Security Service of Ukraine, U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Bridget Brink said that unless Russia pays a high price for its war against Ukraine, other world democracies will be in peril, the agency said in a statement on June 13.
We realize that for Ukraine this is a war of survival, while for the United States this struggle of the Ukrainian people is about preserving the principle that Ukrainian borders must remain inviolable in the face of armed conquest,” said Brink.
The ambassador noted that just as U.S. President Joe Biden said earlier, supporting Ukraine in these dire times goes beyond simply being the right thing to do.
“It also is in our national interest to ensure peace and stability in Europe and firmly demonstrate that using force (in this manner) is misguided,” she added.
According to Brink, other peaceful democracies across the world will be at risk if Russia avoids paying dearly for what it has done. It would spell the end of the rules-based international order, and invite armed aggression elsewhere.
The ambassador reiterated that U.S. support of Ukraine’s territorial integrity is resolute, and once again condemned Russian aggression.
