Ukrainian drones force Alchevsk Steel Plant to halt operations

Ukrainian Defense Forces struck the Alchevsk Metallurgical Plant in temporarily occupied Luhansk Oblast with drones for the second time in a month, forcing the key Russian military supplier to suspend operations, Ukraine’s SBU Security Service reported on April 4.
The plant is “one of the key industrial facilities that the occupiers use to support their military production,” according to the SBU.
The strike was carried out by personnel from the SBU’s Main Directorate in the Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts together with the 1st Separate Center of the Unmanned Systems Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. They used FP-2 drones produced by the Ukrainian company Fire Point.
The plant supplies products to Russia’s Uralvagonzavod, where T-90M Proryv tanks and Msta-S howitzers are manufactured, the SBU said.
After identifying the locations of critical production facilities, strikes were carried out on blast furnaces, main workshops, distillation columns, gas pipelines and electrical substations that power the plant. As a result, the facility halted production.
Overnight into March 30, explosions were heard in occupied Alchevsk, followed by power outages across several cities in occupied Luhansk Oblast.
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine later confirmed the hit on the Alchevsk Metallurgical Plant, where a large-scale fire was observed.
