President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, in the Ukrainian capital Kyiv on June 11, visited Ukrainian soldiers injured at the front.

She posted a video of her visit on Twitter.

“I visited soldiers recovering in a hospital in Kyiv,” the President of the European Commission wrote.

“In spite of the injuries, their spirit is unbroken. Their determination, intact. These are hard times for Ukraine. Europe is at your side.”

Von der Layen also walked around Kyiv’s Independence Square or Maidan Nezalezhnosti, the center of Ukraine’s EuroMaidan popular uprising in the winter of 2013-2014.

Von der Leyen’s June 11 visit to Kyiv was the second time she has come to Ukraine’s capital since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine on Feb. 24.

She held talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, and afterward held a joint press conference.

A European Union opinion on Ukraine’s EU Candidate Status will be ready by the end of next week, von der Leyen said.

She also noted the need to strengthen Ukrainian anti-corruption legislation.
