Eight people, including a 13-year-old child, have been killed over the past 24 hours by Russian shelling of civilian areas in Kharkiv Oblast, Head of the Kharkiv Regional Civil-Military Administration Oleh Synyehubov said on April 12.

In addition, 19 people were injured in the attacks. Invading Russian forces “shelled civilians due to inability to win in battles against Ukrainian military, ”Synyehubov said.

“The Armed Forces of Ukraine are firmly holding the defensive positions of Kharkiv and the region,” he said. “Therefore, the Russian enemy, due to its powerlessness, continues to fight against the civilian population. As a result of daytime attacks in the city and the region, unfortunately, eight people, including a 13-year-old child, were killed. Nineteen people were injured, including two children aged four and nine.” Synyehubov.

Russian forces are also continuing to use delayed action mines, Synyehubov added.

“Once again, we urge citizens to be extremely careful, not to approach such objects and, if they find them, immediately call 101,” Synyehubov said.

On the morning of Feb. 24, Russian forces launched a large-scale invasion of Ukraine. Kharkiv became one of the key directions of the invaders’ attacks. Russian invaders are launching missile and bomb attacks on administrative buildings in the city center, and the enemy’s artillery is systematically destroying suburban residential areas, killing citizens of Kharkiv.

Kharkiv is still controlled by Ukrainian military, and the city is being cleared of saboteurs and looters.

The area around Izyum is the most critical part of Kharkiv Oblast. Russian forces are trying to advance in the direction of Sloviansk and Kramatorsk in Donetsk Oblast in an attempt to encircle Ukrainian forces in the Donbas.

According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Russian invaders are redeploying units of the 1st Tank and 20th Combined Arms Army from Kursk and Bryansk Oblast of Russia to Izyum.
