A 78-year-old man set a Russian Grad multiple rocket launcher on fire using a Molotov cocktail in the town of Bashtanka in Ukraine’s southern Mykolaiv Oblast, town mayor Oleksandr Berehovyi has told Ukrainian journalist Yurii Butusov.

“One of our seniors, he is 78-year-old, took a Molotov cocktail ... threw it into a Grad multiple rocket launcher, and it burst into flame,” he said.

According to Berehovyi, the old man had applied to join Ukraine’s Territorial Defense Forces, but had been rejected.

“Powerful strikes by Ukrainian attack aircraft and helicopters stopped the breakthrough of Russian troops into central Ukraine near the towns of Bashtanka and Novyi Buh on Feb. 27 - March 1,” it says in Butusov’s video, recalling the event.

“And Ukrainian patriots from the Territorial Defense Forces of Bashtanska, using only assault rifles and Molotov cocktails, brought the fight to the Russians in the town and forced the enemy to abandon a large amount of military equipment.”
