Moldova is under immense pressure from Russia, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell said prior to a NATO defense minister summit on Feb. 14, according to Ukrainian-based media outlet European Pravda.

The remarks  came against the backdrop of Moldovan President Maia Sandu's statement that Russia was planning to stage a coup d'état in that Eastern European country.

"We know how much Moldova is under the Russian pressure," Borrell said.

The diplomat noted that Moldova would host a European Political Community  conference in June 2023.

"This will be a good occasion for everybody (to) show support to Moldova to face the Russian pressure, which is every day stronger," he said.

On Feb. 13, Sandu accused Russia of planning to stage a coup d'état in her country.

According to her, Moscow intends to topple the government in that country with the help of opposition protests.

Sandu said that the documents received from Ukraine "indicate the locations and logistical aspects of organizing this subversive activity."
