European Council President Charles Michel is making an official visit to Kyiv on Jan. 19, the latest high-level official to travel to the Ukrainian capital.
“Back in Kyiv to discuss all strands of cooperation,” Michel said in a video posted on his Twitter account, which appeared to be filmed on the train to Ukraine.
“May 2023 be the year of victory and peace,” Michel said.
He said that during his trip to Kyiv he will meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal and members of the Ukrainian parliament, the Verkhovna Rada.
Michel said that Ukraine continues to fight for its sovereignty and independence, and this is a fight for “common European values of peace and prosperity.”
He added that Ukraine “needs and deserves” the support of the European Union.
