Several explosions took place in the Russian town of Valuiky, in Belgorod Oblast bordering Ukraine, after which the town lost electricity, local residents reported on Telegram on Sept. 15.
Valuiky is an important transit point for Russian troops on their way to Ukraine’s Donbas or Kharkiv regions.
Belgorod governor Vyacheslav Gladkov confirmed that the explosions had taken place and blamed them on attacks by Ukrainian forces. According to him, air defense sirens had sounded in Valuiky and a power substation was damaged.
According to video footage of the incident, the town seems to have lost power following a round of shelling from the vicinity of Valuiky, located about 30 km from the Ukrainian border, towards Ukraine.
Earlier, Gladkov said that a border checkpoint in the village of Nekhoteevka had come under fire from Ukrainian forces, starting a blaze at the customs terminal.
