Explosions thundered in western Ukraine’s Khmelnytskyi Oblast, a Russia rounded of a year of war in Ukraine with another mass cruise missile attack on the country.
The authorities in Khmelnytskyi reported there had been missile strikes in the city, Deputy Head of the President’s Office Kyrylo Tymoshenko said on Telegram on Dec. 31.
"The city was attacked by missiles. Two people were injured," Tymoshenko wrote.
Khmelnytskyi regional governor Serhiy Hamaliy also confirmed the strikes.
"There are hits in our region. Please stay in shelters," he said on Telegram.
Later Hamaliy added that at least four civilians had been wounded as a result of the Dec. 31 attack.
An air raid alert sounded throughout Ukraine on the afternoon of Dec. 31. Missile launches from the direction of the Caspian Sea were reported. In many regions, preventive blackouts were put in place to protect the power grid due to the missile threat.
