Western fighter
jets currently rank eighth on the list of military equipment needed by
Ukraine, Celeste Wallander, assistant to the head of the Pentagon, said on
April 26.
Jeff Seldin, Voice of America correspondent, reported that Wallander made the statement during a hearing of the U.S. House Armed Services Committee.
“Modern Western planes are currently ranked approximately eighth on the list of Ukraine’s defense needs,” said Wallander.
She added that a higher priority is currently given to air defense systems, artillery, and armored vehicles.
On March 3, Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov expressed confidence that Ukraine eventually will receive several types of Western fighter jets from its partners.
Kyiv has repeatedly appealed to the United States and other allies to provide modern aircraft. However, U.S. President Joe Biden stated that he currently excludes the possibility of sending U.S.-made F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine.
