A long-distance passenger train arrived in Mykolaiv on Nov. 15 for the first time since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion, public broadcaster Suspilne reports.

The day before, Ukrainian state rail company Ukrzaliznytsia announced it had scheduled train No. 122/121 from Kyiv.

The manager of the passenger train, Bohdan Stadnyk, said that the first Kyiv-Mykolaiv train had about 50 passengers.

"Nine economy class seats and seven second-class tickets were sold,” he stated.

“There were also railway workers, foreign journalists, and organized volunteer groups – Doctors Without Borders and World Central Kitchen.”

With the departure of the train from Kyiv, Ukrzaliznytsia resumed its rail service with Mykolaiv for the first time since Feb. 24.

The train departs from Kyiv at 10.14 p.m. and arrives in Mykolaiv at 7.15 a.m. The return train will depart at 10.09 p.m. and arrive in Kyiv at 6.55 a.m. Tickets can already be purchased at Ukrzaliznysia ticket offices, in the app, or via chatbots.

Russian troops systematically shelled the city, launching rocket attacks on residential and industrial areas. In early November, the mayor of Mykolaiv, Oleksandr Senkevich, stated that since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, there were only 44 days when the Russians had not shelled Mykolaiv.

Since the liberation of the west bank of Kherson Oblast and Kherson city, the number of attacks on Mykolaiv has significantly decreased, but the Armed Forces stress that the threat still remains.

Regional governor Vitaliy Kim said that almost the whole of Mykolaiv Oblast has returned to the control of Ukraine – only part of the Kinburn Spit remains under occupation. Three settlements belonging to Mykolaiv Oblast are located there: Pokrovske, Vasylivka, and Pokrovka.
