Ukraine’s first division of the Patriot air defense system is now operational, said Air Forces spokesperson, Yuriy Ihnat, on national television on April 23.
Ihnat thanked the soldiers who completed their training ahead of schedule and took a selfie with a Patriot system in the background.
“I took a selfie as a memory... One of the divisions is already on combat duty, it is working,” he said.
Patriot air defense systems from the United States, the Netherlands, and Germany arrived in Ukraine on April 19.
Patriot systems can intercept Iskander-M ballistic missiles and repel Russian aviation from within Ukraine’s borders, said Ihnat.
