Despite Russian missile attacks, foreign embassies have no intention of leaving Kyiv, Lithuanian Ambassador Valdemaras Sarapinas told Lithuanian newspaper LRT on Oct. 11.
“We are certainly not planning to do so – I am in constant contact with the ambassadors of other countries, especially European countries, and nobody has such plans,” Sarapinas said.
On Oct. 10, Russian media alleged that foreign embassies were evacuating from Kyiv.
“That's not true,” Sarapinas added.
The diplomat said the night in Kyiv was calm, but other regions of Ukraine – such as Sumy and Zaporizhzhia – were attacked.
“In Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, miners are trapped after (Russian air) strikes and rescue operations are underway,” Sarapinas said.
The U.S. embassy does not plan to evacuate from Kyiv after the massive Russian missile attack on Ukraine, Ambassador Bridget A. Brink said in a Twitter post on Oct. 10.
A mass missile strike hit numerous cities across Ukraine on the morning of Oct. 10, including the capital of Kyiv, leaving many dead and injured. This is the first such attack on Kyiv since June 26.
Russian missiles hit critical energy infrastructure in Kyiv and surrounding areas, Lviv, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipropetrovsk, Vinnytsia, as well as Khmelnytskyi, Ivano-Frankivsk, Sumy, Kharkiv, Zhytomyr and Kirovohrad oblasts.
