Beshketnyky Sirk reconnaissance unit founder Ivan Shcheholov was killed in action for Ukraine on March 25, volunteer and blogger Igor Lachenkov has reported on Telegram.
Shcheholov's death was also confirmed by Beshketnyky Sirka’s Instagram page.
"He was one of the first to go into battle, always leading people, with the smile never leaving his face," the post reads.
Shcheholov began his military career in 2016 with the late “Da Vinci” (Dmytro Kotsiubailo).
He first fought with the Ukrainian Volunteer Corps under the command of "Da Vinci”. Later, he signed a contract with the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
"Shchehol was the best of the best warriors," his comrades added.
“You accepted us like your family, a combat commander who led people into battle who would undoubtedly follow you. What a pain it is to lose you, it is a huge loss for the country. Valhalla has opened its gates, and you are being greeted there with a salute. You were the most seasoned warrior of all in the ranks! Eternal glory to you!”
The Beshketnyky Sirka brigade is a reconnaissance unit of the 92nd Separate Mechanized Brigade named after Cossack Otaman Ivan Sirko.
According to Defense Intelligence, the scouts called themselves "beshketnyky" (‘mischief-makers’) long before the full-scale invasion.
