Ukrainian marines have received French-made AMX-10 RC light tanks, Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov confirmed on Twitter on April 18.
“We took them for a spin together with our warriors, and we agreed to call the AMX-10 the ‘sniper scope on the speedy wheels,’” he captioned the footage.
“These fast, modern machines with powerful guns will aid us in liberating our territory,” he said
“Thank you to my colleague (French Defense Minister) Sébastien Lecornu and to (French President) Emmanuel Macron with whom I had a chance to meet and to discuss our priorities and needs,” he wrote.
“And of course, thank you to all people of France for your strong support! This is what Liberty, Equality, and Brotherhood look like.”
Forces Operations reported on Feb. 14 that France was sending the first batch of 14 AMX-10 RC light tanks to Ukraine. The publication wrote that Ukrainian crews had completed a training program on these vehicles.
The AMX-10 RC is a French armored vehicle classified as a light tank. It is an infantry fighting vehicle (IFV) designed for reconnaissance in dangerous conditions and can be used for fire support. It is equipped with a 105 mm gun, a far more powerful weapon than most conventional IFVs.
