General Staff says New Year ceasefire only possible if Russians leave Ukraine

The ceasefire in Ukraine is possible only if Russia withdraws all its troops from the sovereign territory of Ukraine, Deputy Chief of Ukraine's General Staff Oleksiy Hromov said on Dec. 15.

Asked if "a temporary ceasefire is possible during New Year's holidays," Hromov said that a "complete ceasefire from our side is possible only when not a single occupier remains on our land."

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has told the leaders of the G7 group of hight industrialized nations that he had proposed to Russia that it withdraw its troops from the internationally recognized territory of Ukraine on Christmas.

He said that Christmas and New Year's holidays are coming, when "ordinary people think about peace, not aggression".

The Russian dictator Vladimir Putin's spokesperson, Dmitry Peskov, said that a retreat of ussian troops from Ukraine at the end of the year is "out of the question".
