Germany will supply Ukraine with an IRIS-T air defense system in the coming days, German Defense Minister Christine Lambrecht stated, according to a report by German newspaper Der Spiegel on Oct. 10.
The announcement comes amid a mass missile attack by Russia earlier that morning, causing numerous deaths and injuries across the entire country, including the capital of Kyiv.
"New missile strike against Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities demonstrates the importance of quick delivery of air defense systems to Ukraine," Lambrecht said.
According to her, in the coming days the first out of four of the most modern air defense systems IRIS-T SLM will be ready to effectively protect Ukrainians.
Lambrecht pointed out that the next three systems will be shipped next year.
A consular visa office belonging to the Embassy of Germany in Kyiv was damaged as a result of the Russian strike.
Russia had two aims with its mass attack: to strike energy facilities and terrorize civilians, according to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
