Germany has begun to produce RCH 155 self-propelled artillery systems intended for Ukraine, spokesman of the gun’s manufacturer Krauss-Maffei Wegmann, Nicholas Drummond, said in a Twitter post on Dec. 31, 2022.
“Sometimes combining two proven solutions in a new concept can be revolutionary while avoiding significant risk; Boxer RCH155 production for Ukraine has commenced,” Drummond said, referring to the howitzer’s design.
“You can fire maximum charge with the gun pointed at a 90 degrees angle. With its chassis, you can even do so on a slope of up to 10 degrees.”
In September, the German government approved the sale of 18 RCH 155 self-propelled artillery systems to Ukraine, with deliveries expected in 2025. Krauss-Maffei Wegmann didn’t want to start production until the government signed off on the deal.
