Germany has kept its promise to supply weapons to Ukraine, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius wrote on Twitter on March 27.

"Promised – delivered: 18 Leopard 2 A6 main battle tanks arrived in Ukraine today, as well as sets with ammunition and spare parts," the minister said.

German tanks play a key role at the combat field, he added, emphasizing that more tanks were delivered than promised.

"We can be relied on," Pistorius said.

After some hesitation, Germany approved on Jan. 25 that it would deliver Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine, as well as allowing their re-export by other countries.

Berlin agreed to send 18 Leopard 2s.

In total, nine countries will transfer over 150 Leopard tanks to Ukraine. The tank coalition continues to grow, the U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III said on March 15.

Besides the 18 German Leopards, Ukraine received two armored repair and recovery vehicles and an additional three Leopard tanks from Portugal as of March 27.

Germany has sent Ukraine 40 Marder infantry fighting vehicles, with Pistorius confirming on March 20 that the first shipment was on its way.
