German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock has made a surprise visit to Ukraine, German news outlet DW reported on Sept. 10. Baerbock last visited Kyiv in May.

The minister is expected to meet with her Ukrainian counterpart, although the rest of her itinerary remains undisclosed. The visit aims to counteract Germany’s “war fatigue,” according to the minister.

Baerbock reiterated Berlin’s commitment to supporting Ukraine “for as long as it takes,” with security, financial, and humanitarian assistance.

“I understand (Russian dictator Vladimir) Putin expects us to grow tired of solidarity with Ukraine,” said Baerbock.

“He believes he can divide our societies with lies, use (natural) gas as blackmail, exhaust our capacity to defend against this heinous attack on our core values.”

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken also made an unannounced visit to Kyiv on Sept. 8. He met with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, discussing the efforts of the United States and its allies to assist Ukraine in repelling the Russian invasion.
