The assets of individuals frozen by Germany as part of the EU sanctions against Russia totalled about EUR 5 billion as of December, Germany’s t-online media outlet reported on Dec. 19.
According to the German federal government’s response to a request from member of the Bundestag from the Left Party Christian Görke, the assets frozen in Germany belong to Russian oligarchs.
The amount of EUR 5 billion has remained almost unchanged since July, despite Germany having a sanctions law in place that obliges individuals subject to EU sanctions to declare their assets or face a fine or up to one year in prison.
