The Berlin Public Prosecutor's Office has launched an investigation into the Russian House of Science and Culture, which operates in the German capital, German public broadcaster DW reported on Jan. 20.

The prosecutors will check for violations of EU sanctions against Russia over its aggression against Ukraine.

DW notes that the Russian Federal Agency for CIS Affairs, Compatriots Living Abroad, and International Humanitarian Cooperation (Rossotrudnichestvo), which manages the Russian House, is on the EU sanctions list.

"As previously noted by the German legal portal LTO, the Russian House, as a resource of Rossotrudnichestvo, has no right to receive income in Germany, for example, from the sale of tickets to events or rental of premises," the statement said.

The inspection was launched after a statement by former Bundestag member from the Union-90/Green party Volker Beck, who stated that Russian propaganda continues to be heard in Berlin at a time when people are dying in Ukraine every day.
