Germany’s Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock has assured Ukraine of her country’s support in the war against Russia for years to come, German broadcaster Deutsche Welle reported on Aug. 28.

“Unfortunately, we have to assume that Ukraine will still need new heavy weapons from its friends next summer,” she told German Sunday newspaper Bild am Sonntag.

Baerbock said that “Ukraine is also defending our freedom, our peace.”

“And we’re supporting them financially and militarily – and for as long as necessary. Period,” she said.
