Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has again called on Ukraine’s Western allies to send heavy weapons and aircraft to Ukraine to defend the country from full-scale Russian invasion.

In an interview with U.S. broadcaster Fox News published on his Facebook page, he said that without heavy weapons, it would be difficult for Ukraine to fight against "one of the most powerful armies in the world."

“Our military, people, soldiers are stronger than the Russian Federation, but (the invaders) have a lot more weapons, so the forces are not equal...” Zelensky said.

“Heavy weapons will give us the opportunity to talk with them at the negotiating table. We don't need millions of quality body armor or fancy helmets. Give us rockets, planes. If you can't give us F-18s or F-19s — give us old Soviet planes. Give me something to protect my country.”

The Armed Forces of Ukraine have been requesting more modern fighters and air defenses from the allies since the beginning of the all-out war, as the Russian air force "has access to more advanced radar and missile technologies." Despite this, the Ukrainian Air Force has prevented Russia from establishing air superiority and is still destroying enemy aircraft and missiles.

Earlier, President Zelensky criticized foreign partners who have not yet handed over the tanks and aircraft Ukraine needs to lift the Russian siege of the industrial city of Mariupol in the Donbas.
