Around 40,700 Russian troops have been killed in action across Ukraine – enough to fill 24 soccer fields with graves, Ukrainian Defense Ministry said in a Twitter post on July 28.
A recent White House briefing suggested that estimated Russian combat losses in its Ukrainian campaign exceed 75,000 dead and wounded soldiers.
Meanwhile, UK weekly newspaper the Economist assesses that between combat casualties, desertions, and resignations, over five months the Russian army has lost 100,000-125,000 troops – more than half of the total invasion force initially committed to the war.
