The U.S. Department of Defense has seen growing indications of resistance against the Russian occupation near the Ukrainian southern city of Kherson, a senior U.S. Defense Department official said on June 27.
"Over the last several days, we've become aware of assassinations of local Russian officials," the official said.
"And we're also aware that reporting suggests Ukrainians have been successful in liberating several small towns northwest and west of Kherson."
Earlier the Pivden (South) Operational Command said that the Ukrainian army was gradually pushing back the Russian invaders in the south. Russian troops are being forced to set up new defensive lines.
According to Ukraine's General Staff, the Russian army is trying to prevent Ukrainian forces from carrying out counteroffensive actions in Kherson and Mykolaiv Oblasts.
Earlier, on June 24, Dmytro Savluchenko, a prominent collaborator in Russian-occupied Kherson, was killed when his car exploded.
Prior to this incident, several more cars of local collaborators had been blown up in Kherson.
