Heavy fighting for Bakhmut is underway, with Russian troops mercilessly destroying the town, Oleksiy Reva, head of the Bakhmut Town Military Administration, said on Facebook on March 1.
"There are heavy battles for our Bakhmut," he wrote.
“It is painful to see what enemy shells are doing to the town, what they are turning the community into.”
He said 4,500 residents remain in the war-torn Donbas town.
"Residents are provided with food, water, and hygiene products," he said.
“We continue to deliver bread to the town, twice a week, in an amount of 5,000 loaves.”
Reva stressed that it is extremely dangerous in Bakhmut.
"The enemy is mercilessly destroying the town, injuring and killing civilians," his message reads.
“To date, Russians have ruined more than 4,400 residential buildings. There is no forgiveness for them.”
Earlier, the General Staff noted that the Bakhmut section of the front remains the most difficult sector. In their attempts to capture the town, Russian troops are losing thousands of soldiers killed, while Wagner mercenaries are not counted at all.
