Hungarian President Katalin Novak will visit Kyiv in near future to meet with her Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Hungarian news outlet Index reported on Nov. 25.
According to the report, Novak will travel to Ukraine via Poland. Her press office did neither confirm nor deny the visit was in the works.
Novak would be the first Hungarian politician to meet with Zelenskyy after Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
She previously condemned the invasion and called for investigation of Russian war crimes.
Ukraine-Hungary relations remain tense due to the consistently pro-Russian position of Hungarian PM Viktor Orban.
Orban continues to stall and erode EU sanctions on Moscow, insisting they have no effect other than hurt Hungarian consumers. He also said that by providing security assistance to Ukraine, the EU is increasing the risk of the war spilling over beyond Ukrainian borders.
