If global leaders won’t hear me, I’ll turn to their people – President Zelensky
Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky said he would appeal directly to the societies in countries all over the world if their political leaders do not go the extra mile to end the ongoing war.
Statement was made in a video released on March 8.
“I will speak directly to the peoples of the world if the leaders of the world do not make every effort to stop this war. This is genocide. Of course, we continue to talk to our partners. To leaders, parliamentarians of all countries who know how to help Ukraine,” the head of state said.
According to him, the last 24 hours of negotiations have been very eventful.
“I spoke to Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda. The people of Lithuania stand side by side with Ukrainians in this struggle. We feel help. And we appreciate it. I spoke to the President of the European Council, our friend Charles Michel. I also spoke to the Prime Minister of India, Mr. Modi," Zelensky informed.
At the same time, he stated that there are things that are to be decided outside the negotiations.
“[Things] not directly dependent on us. But only on humanity, which should win in the leading capital cities. It must defeat fear. It must outweigh any benefits. And then we will see that the Ukrainian sky is safe. Ukrainian cities are unblocked. We can do it as humans in peace. If the world stands aloof, it will lose itself. Forever. Because there are unconditional values. Same for everyone. First of all, it is life. The right to life for everyone. This is exactly what we are fighting for in Ukraine. Very fiercely, together with our military. This is exactly what these weak invaders want to deprive us of. This is exactly what the whole world must protect,” Zelensky said.
