Invading Russian forces kill 117 children and wound more than 155 since start of invasion
Invading Russian forces have killed 117 children and wounded more than 155 in attacks on civilian areas, the Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine reported on March 22.
Most of the wounded children, 58, were from Kyiv Oblast. In Kharkiv Oblast 40 were wounded, in Chernihiv Oblast - 31, Donetsk Oblast - 30, Mykolaiv Oblast - 24, Zhytomyr Oblast - 15, Kherson Oblast – 15, Sumy Oblast – 14 and in the city of Kyiv - 16.
In recent days, in Kharkiv Oblast, a Russian tank shelled a car, inside which was a family with two children. The parents and a 9-year-old girl were killed, and a 17-year-old boy was injured.
The burnt bodies of three people, including a 7-year-old child, were found under the debris of destroyed residential buildings of the Horticultural Society of the Southern Buh as a result of the shelling of the village of Kostiantynivka in Mykolaiv Oblast.
On March 21, the invaders shelled buses evacuating children from Mariupol. Four children were taken to hospital. Three children came under shelling in Polohivskyi District in Zaporizhzhia Oblast, and another child in the village of Kamianske. Two of the children remain in critical condition.
As a result of bombing and shelling, 548 educational institutions were damaged, 72 of which were completely destroyed.
Most of the destroyed educational institutions are in Donetsk, Kharkiv, Mykolaiv, Sumy, Kyiv, Kherson, and Chernihiv Oblasts and in the city of Kyiv.
Additionally, more than 40 childcare facilities have been destroyed, including healthcare clinics, art schools, sports facilities and libraries.
Russian President Vladimir Putin declared the start of a “special military operation” against Ukraine on Feb. 24 at 0500.
March 22 is the 27th day of a full-scale war against Russia. The Russian invaders are present on Ukrainian territory in the north, east and south, shelling peaceful cities throughout Ukraine with artillery and bombing them from the air.
Since the beginning of the war, the most difficult situations have been observed in Kharkiv, Chernihiv, Sumy, Mariupol, Kyiv and the capital’s outskirts.
The Russian invaders are also trying to occupy the territories of Donetsk and Luhansk Oblasts that have remained under Ukrainian government control since the start of the war in 2014.
