Ukraine’s Armed Forces have liberated the town of Irpin, to the north-west of Kyiv, from invading Russian forces, the town’s mayor Oleksandr Markushin said in a Facebook video on March 28.
“Today Irpin is liberated, the final sweeps (for the last Russian troops) are underway,” Markushin said.
The mayor warned residents against returning to the town, since Ukrainian forces are taking up defensive positions around Irpin.
“We understand that our town is facing more attacks, and we will courageously defend it,” he said.
Earlier, Ukrainian officials said that mines and IEDs could make it dangerous for people to immediately return to their homes if they had been occupied by the Russians.
