The Italian Embassy in Kyiv has urged Italian citizens to refrain from traveling to Ukraine due to the danger from Russian missile and drone attacks, the embassy wrote on Facebook on May 9.

“(There are) armed attacks on Kyiv and the entire territory of Ukraine,” the report says.

“The security situation remains critical, there is a risk of power outages. All trips to Ukraine, in any capacity, are strongly not recommended.”

Russia attacked Ukraine with Iranian-made Shahed suicide drones overnight on May 8. Ukrainian air defense forces shot down all 35 drones launched at Kyiv by Russia from various directions. Five people were injured and there was damage to buildings in the west of the capital from falling debris from the shoot-downs, according to city authorities.

The runaway at Kyiv Zhuliany international airport in the west of the capital was also damaged by falling debris.

Russia also attacked Odesa Oblast overnight with Kh-22 anti-ship missiles launched by Tu-22 strategic bombers, hitting a food warehouse and a recreational facility on the Black Sea coast, which caused a fire. One person was killed and another two were injured as a result of the attack.

Ukraine’s General Staff said in an evening update that the Russian invaders had launched 11 missiles and 59 air strikes at Ukraine in the past day. In addition, the enemy used multiple launch rocket systems 76 times.

In the morning of May 9, Ukraine’s air force said air defenses had shot down 23 of 25 Russian missiles fired at Ukraine overnight.
