Ukrainian counter-offensive is only just starting, military expert tells NV
Military expert Pavlo Narozhnyi, speaking on Radio NV, has said the ongoing active operations by the Armed Forces of Ukraine along the front line signify only the initial stage of the Ukrainian offensive.
“At the moment, everything happening is artillery preparation,” Narozhnyi said.
“Artillery units are demolishing targets that require destruction. We can witness a considerable amount of equipment damage through the utilization of Javelins, field artillery, and other methods.”
“This evidence is apparent in the impressive videos shared by our military and, more importantly, in the reports from the General Staff. Therefore, this is just the beginning.”
He added the Ukrainian military offensive may last for several months.
“It won’t be just one day or one week. It will be a summer operation or perhaps a summer-autumn operation.”
“Therefore, the duration of the offensive, ranging from three to five months, will depend on weather conditions. Various resources, including personnel, weapons, ammunition, and other factors, will also contribute to the operation’s length.”
“Currently, we have witnessed the commencement of these offensive actions, and even in this initial stage, we can already observe successes achieved by our military,” Narozhnyi said.
Ukraine’s advance: the latest updates
The Ukrainian military’s General Staff announced on June 16 that Ukrainian units have successfully conducted offensive operations in the following areas:
- Novodanilivka-Robotyne (towards Tokmak, Zaporizhzhya Oblast)
- Levadne-Staromayorske (on the border of Zaporizhzhya and Donetsk Oblasts)
- East of the settlement of Stupochky in Donetsk Oblast, displacing Russians from their occupied positions
- In the Vuhledar area, the Ukrainian Armed Forces achieved success in certain areas.
Deputy Minister of Defense Hanna Malyar stated that over the past week-and-a-half, Ukrainian forces have advanced more than three kilometers in the eastern direction.
She also reported that during the first week of the Ukrainian counteroffensive, Ukraine’s losses were significantly lower than those of the Russian forces.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has stated that Ukraine’s ongoing successful counter-offensive on the front lines may ultimately lead to a decisive defeat for Russia.
