A long curfew is being introduced in Kharkiv Oblast due to the threat of increased provocations by the Russian military in the coming days, Kharkiv regional military administration said in comments to the Ukrainian news agency Interfax-Ukraine on Aug 21.

“In Kharkiv and Kharkiv oblast, which are constantly shelled by Russia, there are threats of increased provocations,” a source at the administration noted.

“The last week of intensified shelling shows this. We shouldn’t give the enemy a chance for any provocations, so the head of the regional military administration has strengthened the curfew and increased its duration.”

The administration noted that a set of security measures aimed at increasing the defense capability of the oblast and the city will also be introduced in the coming days.

An enhanced curfew will be in effect in Kharkiv Oblast, lasting from 7.00 p.m. on Aug. 23 to 7.00 a.m. on Aug. 25. It will be forbidden to be in public places and to move in the streets on foot or in vehicles.

Russian invasion forces regularly shell Kharkiv and Kharkiv oblasts, destroying infrastructure and killing civilians. In a recent deadly attack late in the evening of Aug. 17, the invaders launched a missile at the Saltovsky residential district of Kharkiv.

A residential three-story building was completely destroyed, and 18 people died. The State Emergency Service said that among the dead were elderly people with disabilities.

The first bomb shelter at a public transport stop in Kharkiv was installed on Aug. 19.
