Kherson municipal administration captured by Russia forces, says local official
Invading Russian forces have taken control of Kherson’s State Administration building, according to a message posted by its head, Hennady Lahuta, via the Telegram instant messaging service on March 3.
“We haven’t abandoned our duties; I’m still leading the regional HQ that works to resolve issues facing the residents of Kherson oblast,” the message reads.
“We’re awaiting humanitarian relief; please, don’t be fooled by fake news and don’t panic.”
Kherson is located directly north of the Russian occupied peninsula of Crimea, and has been a key target of the current Russian invasion of Ukraine.
