Photos and videos of Ukrainian military personnel standing in the center of the recently liberated town of Kupyansk in Kharkiv Oblast appeared on social networks on Sept. 10, leading to widespread speculation that the town had been wrested from Russian control. Official confirmation came that same day, firstly from Minister of Foreign Affairs representative Oleg Nikolenko.

“Photos without comments. Currently, every Mariupol resident dreams of such a photo from home. We believe in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. We know – soon.”

A photo of Ukrainian soldiers standing near the building of the Kupyansk City Council and a video on the roof of one of the buildings also appeared on social networks.

“Kupyansk waited,” a Facebook user wrote.

Kupyansk was an important logistical hub for the Russian invaders, through which supplies traveled to the town of Izyum, which is still currently being contested by Ukrainian forces. Its loss puts the invaders in a very difficult position in this area, since their groupings actually found themselves encircled by Ukrainian troops.

This unexpected liberation operation, in Kharkiv Oblast, kicked off on Sept. 6.

Meanwhile, the Ukrainian military’s operation to liberate Kherson Oblast continues.

The Ukrainian army has kept the strategic Antonivskyi Bridge and other crossings across the Dnipro River in Kherson Oblast under sustained fire, thereby preventing Russian troops from restoring critical supply routes.

As Ukrainian troops block the deployment of Russian units, the capabilities of the Russian Armed Forces in the region are being severely diminished, military experts say.

And while the Ukrainian military’s General Staff has refrained from commenting on updates regarding the liberation of Kherson, earlier reports has indicated that a number of settlements have been liberated.

Additionally, Ukrainian partisans continue to eliminate pro-Kremlin collaborators who have voluntarily agreed to work for the invading Russian forces in Kherson Oblast.

Due to Ukraine’s ongoing success in liberating the region, the occupying authorities decided against holding a sham referendum on “joining” the Ukrainian territories under occupation to Russia, Ukrainian intelligence services have said.
