Commanders of various ranks and Russian soldiers are refusing in large numbers to participate in Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said on April 3.

Commanders of various ranks of the 3rd Motor Rifle Division of the 20th Combined Arms Army of Russia’s Western Military District refuse to participate in hostilities, Ukraine’s General Staff said. In addition, military personnel are submitting letters of resignation en masse.

The personnel of two battalion tactical groups of the 4th military base from the 58th Combined Arms Army of Russia’s Southern Military District have refused to participate in hostilities on the territory of Ukraine, the General Staff reported. Their return to their home bases is planned.

“In order to make up for the losses of personnel, the Russian leadership is carrying out recruitment campaigns among the civilian population to get them to join the armed forces,” Ukraine’s General Stand said.

“Such campaigns are being held both in Russia and on the temporary occupied territories of Donetsk and Luhansk Oblasts, and in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea.”
