Latvia is to halt the broadcasting of the last 80 Russian TV channels still available to local viewers from June 9, as per a decision made by the country’s National Electronic Mass Media Council, reports local news agency Delfi.

As the council’s chairman Ivars Abolins explained, the decision was made on the basis of new legislation. It stipulates that channels registered in a country that threatens the independence and territorial integrity of another country cannot operate in Latvia.

The decision will remain in effect until Russia stops the war and withdraws from Ukraine’s Russian-occupied territory of Crimea.
