Ukraine’s broadcast regulator registers Newsmax Ukraine channel

Ukraine’s National Council on Television and Radio Broadcasting has registered Newsmax Ukraine, clearing the outlet to operate as a linear media channel via internet broadcasting, the regulator reported at a meeting on May 28.
According to Liga, the launch of Newsmax Ukraine is part of a broader strategy to expand the network in Eastern Europe. The Ukrainian branch is expected to report to the Polish branch, which in turn will be subordinate to the Serbian state company Telekom Srbija.
The company applied for registration as a linear media outlet using OTT and IPTV internet broadcasting technology under the Newsmax Ukraine logo.
Newsmax presents itself as the main alternative to the conservative U.S. channel Fox News. It has also been described as a favorite megaphone of U.S. President Donald Trump.
According to 2025 Nielsen data, Newsmax is the fourth-most-watched cable news channel in the United States and the 34th-most-watched cable channel overall.
The founders of Newsmax Ukraine LLC are a Polish company owned by Latvian national Roman Varlamovs, which holds an 85% stake, and Liudmyla Nemyria, who holds 15%. Nemyria also serves as Newsmax Ukraine’s executive producer.
According to Nemyria, the channel will target both Ukrainian and American audiences. Broadcasts will be translated into English, and joint programs featuring both American and Ukrainian politicians are also planned.
A building for the channel has already been leased and is now undergoing renovation. After registration, the outlet is expected to publicly announce hiring for 50 employees. Nemyria said the channel will be financed by its founders.
It was previously reported that the U.S. television network Newsmax had signed a licensing agreement for the use of its brand to launch Newsmax Ukraine, a localized news channel expected to begin operating in spring 2026.
