The creator of the now-legendary phrase, "Russian warship, go fuck yourself", Roman Hrybov, who was serving as a border guard on  Zmiinyi (Snake) Island, has been released from captivity to his native Cherkasy Oblast, Cherkasy Governor Ihor Taburets reported via Telegram messenger on March 29.

"I had the honor to congratulate our, without exaggeration, legendary soldier in our homeland," Taburets wrote.

"Roman participated in the defense of Zmiinyi Island."

Hrybov has also been awarded the merit "For Services to Cherkasy Oblast."

The governor thanked the Ukrainian soldier for his firmness and indomitability of spirit.

"I want to thank the Ukrainian people for this support," Hrybov said after receiving the award.

"We feel it very much. It inspires us. We have strength behind us. The truth is with us. And we will win. Slava Ukraini (Glory to Ukraine),"

The 31-year-old border guard coined the phrase on Feb. 24, the day when Russia invaded Ukraine, in response to a demand by a Russian warship to disarm and surrender.

Hrybov's colorful reply has become a symbol of the fight against the Russian invaders.
