Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Ukraine needs more heavy weapons in order to lift the blockade of Mariupol, in a briefing on April 11.
Ukraine needs aircraft, a sufficient number of armored vehicles, and artillery, the President added.
“We are still dependent on the supply of weapons from our partners," the President noted.
"Unfortunately, we have not received as much as necessary, to quickly end this war in order to completely destroy the enemy on our land, and in order to fulfill tasks that are obvious to each of our people. In particular, to lift the blockade of Mariupol. If we got aircraft, a sufficient number of armored vehicles, artillery, we could do it."
Zelensky urged partner nations not to waste time, and to speed up the supply of weapons that remain in their warehouses.
“Delays in the supply of weapons means that more than only time is lost," he stressed.
"The lives of Ukrainians are lost. Lives cannot be returned. And this is this already the responsibility of those who still keep the weapons necessary for Ukraine in their warehouses. A responsibility that remains in history forever."
Ukrainian soldiers have been confronting the forces of the Russian enemy in Mariupol for more than a month, amid a humanitarian catastrophe caused by constant Russian shelling. Zelensky noted that the defense of Mariupol makes it possible to hold the positions of Ukrainian forces in the east of the country, thanks to that, Ukraine has a better position in negotiations with Russia.
