The director of one of the factories of Ukraine’s Ukroboronprom arms manufacturer was charged with taking UAH 2.44 million ($66,000) in kickbacks and failing to declare owning expensive real estate abroad, the National Anti-corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) said in a message on its website on Oct. 25.

According to law enforcement, the accused took $66,000 in kickbacks from Optimumspetzdetal in 2016-2017, working to conceal faux invoices for shipments of military goods.

NABU said this is a part of a wider investigation into Optimumspetzdetal, which is suspected of operating several corruption schemes, defrauding the state of estimated UAH 46 million ($1.25 million).

Another person of interest in the investigation is Ihor Gladkovsky – son of former member of Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council, Oleh Gladkovsky.

Furthermore, NABU reported that the accused failed to declare an apartment in Bulgaria, worth UAH 1.33 million ($36,000) and formally owned by his wife.

Ukroboronprom said they have suspended the individual in questions and are fully cooperating with law enforcement in their investigation.
